EEG coherence and response conflict in 7- and 9-year-olds

A coherence method for seeing how children recruit cortex when two responses compete.

The idea

Choosing between competing responses is a control problem, and it is still maturing at 7 and 9. This paper sets out a coherence analysis for that process, so the coupling between EEG sites can be read as the conflict is resolved.

The approach

Children at two ages do a conflict task under EEG. Coherence, rather than power at a single electrode, is the measure. The point of the paper is the analysis approach as much as the age comparison.
